Now that Bungie has escaped the Halo factory, they’re free to do whatever they want, provided Activision gets to publish it. With all that limitless freedom, the guys sat around and decided, “Hey, why don’t we make an MMO?” After the Blizzard ninjas that rappelled down from the glass cieling were defeated, the team got straight to work.
During a GDC panel, Bungie lead network engineer David Aldridge described their next project as a “massively multiplayer action game,” which sounds pretty MMO to me. He also refuted rumors that the game would be “WoW in space.” So, something like the the vaporware, Huxley: The Dystopia then?
We’ll probably see more of Bungie’s next project at E3 in June.
