During the Game Developers Conference today, Reggie Fils-Aime of Nintendo officially announced that Netflix streaming will be making its way to the upcoming Nintendo 3DS handheld this summer.
Virtually identical to currently available Netflix subscriptions on various other devices and consoles, the extension of the service to include the 3DS will not add any additional fees. Currently, you can secure a Netflix subscription for as little as $7.99 a month.
The case of Netflix on the 3DS is particularly exciting when compared to the service’s availability on other consoles–such as the Wii or Xbox 360–because you can effectively have a wide range of media that is readily available anywhere. You’re not limited to a single, static area of viewing.
The Nintendo 3DS is set to launch outside of Japan at the end of March.
