GDC 2011: Next Generation Portable Is Unsurprisingly Not As Powerful As PS3

During the Next Generation Portable panel at the Game Developers Conference today, research manager David Coombes revealed that the upcoming Sony handheld is in fact not as powerful as a PlayStation 3 console–more specifically, it does not run at 2 GHz.
Rumors surrounding the outrageous power of this device initially began due to the fact that a few PlayStation 3 demos were showcased upon the original announcement of the handheld. Fortunately, Sony has presented a very simple and logical explanation as to why the Next Generation Portable cannot possibly be compared to the PS3 on a technological level.
“Well, it’s not going to run at 2 GHz because the battery would last five minutes… and it would probably set fire to your pants.”
There you have it, Sony is simply keeping an eye out for your own well-being, and one would assume, also protecting themselves from a legal perspective.
