Kasey Kahne & Red Bull's Augmented Reality Racing App

We all know games that have user created contend can be very addicting if done right because the user feels like they were a part of the creative process. Red Bull may have known this when making their Augmented Racing app. for the iPhone, but they made a strange requirement for player to make tracks — lots of Red Bull cans.

In order to make your tracks in the app you will need to scan a can of Red Bull and ‘connect the dots’, the dots being more cans, and before you know it your track is ready to be raced on by you and other Augmented Racing app owners. Let’s look at NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne using the app for a promo video:

In an interview with the creators of the app they said that the best work he’s seen has been done with between 6 and 100 cans! Which brings up the question of the apps price — which is free. That’s good considering you’ll need some Red Bull’s to make your track — and an iPhone or a WiFi enabled iPod touch to run the app of course.
