In a press conference yesterday EA and Mad Catz came together to announce a relationship in which Mad Catz would produce accessories specifically themed after the EA game ‘The Sims’. It’s not at all strange to see this pairing, but the game chosen is a bit surprising.
This partnership may seem less strange if the type of accessories was known. An example would be if Mad Catz were making controllers made specifically for ‘The Sims’ or if they’re making products with “The Sims’ logo on the side.
All that’s been released as of now is what devices the accessories are for, PC, 360, PS3, Wii, DS, and 3DS, and a couple of blurbs in the press release one being from the Vice President of EA, Patrick O’Brien:
We are delighted to be working with Mad Catz to further broaden the appeal of The Sims franchise through the introduction of specialty PC and console accessories,†said Patrick O’Brien, Vice President of Electronic Arts. “Mad Catz has a long history of working with game publishers to deliver unique products, and we believe that together we can introduce a range of accessories that appeal to players of The Sims series.
Only time will tell what this pairing will be able to produce, but you have to wonder if this could be a hint for a new ‘The Sims’ game or if Mad Catz and EA just believe the brand is strong enough to release accessories like this.
